Annually, the Eco-Officers from Pool Hayes Primary School work with a local professional photographer, Steph Geary, to explore the world around us and display it through a different lens for others. This year, the project opened up to include some additional volunteers. The children were each given a disposable camera, taught how to use it and given the task to take photos of our environment and try to capture its beauty along with human impact.
Once the children finally grasped that they couldn’t delete photos or check what they looked like, they considered their shots carefully. The cameras were handed in and the photos developed ready for an exhibition at school. The children saw their photos for the first time when they’d been developed and printed for display.

Talking about the project, the children said it helped them to see the world around them differently, they could see lots of beautiful parts of where we live and that many of the less beautiful parts are because of human destruction. Next year we hope to see the children continuing to notice the beauty around us and take pride in the area in which we live.
