Safeguarding

information

Safeguarding is an area that we take seriously and we strive to try and keep our young people safe both at school, home and the wider community.

We currently have a team of staff who make up our Safeguarding Team in School these are:

  • Mr Carter, Deputy Headteacher (Designated Safeguarding Lead)
  • Mrs Davis, Family Support Officer, (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead)
  • Mrs Vaughan, Headteacher
  • Mrs Statham, Class Teacher
  • Mrs Pugh, Class Teacher

At Pool Hayes Primary School the safety and wellbeing of all children is of paramount importance. Parents and carers send their children to school each day with the expectation that school provides a safe and secure environment in which their children can flourish.

As such we take our responsibility for safeguarding, including our statutory responsibilities, very seriously. Only if children are safe and happy are they able to fulfil their potential in their learning. We expect all staff and volunteers to share our commitment.

We achieve this objective by:

  • Establishing a safe environment in which children can learn and develop.
  • Ensuring that all staff receive appropriate training, guidance and support to undertake the effective safeguarding of children (including emotion coaching and trauma informed methods).
  • Raising awareness of child protection issues and equipping children with the skills needed to keep them safe. Pupils are taught about safeguarding as a part of the national curriculum through Online Safety, PSHE, RHSE and Religious Education.
  • Supporting pupils who have been abused in accordance with his/her agreed child protection plan.
  • All concerns are passed to the designated safeguarding lead/deputy lead within school.
  • We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support children, families and staff at school.

Walsall Safeguarding Children Board

Pool Hayes Primary School has adopted ‘Walsall Safeguarding Children Board’ policy for safeguarding within school. There is a system of referral transparent to all staff, and any employee or voluntary helper must hold an up-to-date DBS. There are weekly Safeguarding meetings held to discuss provision for vulnerable children. This is to ensure:

  • Children are protected from maltreatment;
  • Children’s health and development is not impaired;
  • Children grow up with a safe provision and have effective care to enable them to have optimum life chances.

In safeguarding the pupils in school, the school may involve other agencies and adopts a multi-agency approach to safeguarding.

All staff working within the school have received Level 1 Safeguarding training delivered by a government Child Safeguarding Team. It is the duty of every member of staff to record and report any concerns to the above named staff.
