This year our House Captains in Year 6 team created a company called ‘Baking Games’ for this year’s annual Tycoon in Schools business competition. The team topped their national 750 league (KS1-2) for overall profit, they made a stunning £548, a 685% return on investment from an initial £80 business start-up loan. We are so proud, they have done it all; written a business plan, received a loan, advertised, planned and ran a superb after school club and finally, wrote a business evaluation for the judging team to review this term. We wish them all the very best of luck in their bid to become the sixth team in a row from Pool Hayes Primary to reach the national finals!
Here is an extract from our Tycoons business evaluation:
Our whole project has been very creative – the company name, design of the logo and whole concept of an outdoor and indoor craft, activity, well-being and learning club. We were aiming to better the businesses that had been created previously at our school, knowing that we wanted an event-based project not just single sales like a shop or basic service. Our main aim was to help people and make their lives better through giving them an enjoyable experience but also teaching them new fitness and baking skills that they could use and benefit from outside of school. Lastly, the profit we made had to benefit others so we decided that some of it should all go to local charities in Willenhall to support families during the cost of living crisis. Some would also go to school projects to make our school a better, greener place by donating profit to give to our gardening club to plant new crops in our school garden! We did this because it’s proven that the outdoors is a great stress reliever! We were creative with our activity and baking choices to make sure they were planned for educational and well-being purposes, we had themed weeks (e.g. Easter – egg hunt, nature walk and decorate an egg!) to increase the numbers of customers. Our advertising was very creative using online adverts for parents and children and speaking to each class each week. Overall, we created a service that the children wanted (we surveyed them asking what activities they wanted) and improved it each week.
